Dublin Awards Night

A Climate Awareness Photo Competition recently showcased the talent of TU Dublin students and staff and brought to life TU Dublin’s focus on sustainability. Over 80 staff and students attended the event on 25 January, with 39 exceptional photographs exhibited. The exhibition was held in the GROWTHHub, along with the awards for the Inno-EUt+ Climate Enterprise Programme.

Giving out the awards Jennifer Boyer, VP Sustainability at TU Dublin, highlighted the importance for students to reflect on their own environments and consider what they can change.

The Awards for the Inno-EUt+ Climate Enterprise Programme contained 26 start-up pitches by 114 students. The winning team was an all-women team of postgraduate engineering students Dania Rose Thomas, Jessica Nicolodell Mondardo, Namrata Pandya and Sediye Cherise Machaba who pitched ‘InWasted’. The InWasted climate start-up idea involves a digital App and products from the recycling of waste from the construction industry.

Second place went to a group of postgraduate students for ‘Eye Eclipse’, a climate friendly eye glass solution using electrochromic technology, while third place went to a group of first year students for their family board game ‘Planet Rush’. Students from the winning team will travel to Leeuwarden in The Netherlands in March for a programme of mentoring and education events organised by Water Alliance.

The Inno-EUt+ climate enterprise programme and the Climate Awareness Photo Competition is funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology through EIT Climate-KIC as part of the Inno-EUt+ innovation capacity-building in HEI pilot initiative. It is led by Dr Deirdre McQuillan and Dr Sylvia Gagivan.
